Christmas Series Card #4 / Weihnachtsserie Karte #4

und willkommen zum vierten Teil meiner Weihnachtsserie Heute möchte ich mit euch meinen ersten Versuch einer Shadowbox teilen. Dank Birkas fabelhaftem Video, musste ich mir nicht einmal selber mein Hirn zermatern ;o)

and welcome to part four of my Christmas series. Today I would like to share my first shadow box card, which turned out really great thanks to Birkas fantastic video ;o)

Um diese Art Karte zu machen braucht man nur 2 Papiere in der Höhe, die die Karte später haben soll. Die muss man auf die Breite schneiden, die die Maße der Breite der Karte, die Tiefe plus etwa 1/4 Inch für die Klebelasche zusammenaddiert ergeben. Gefalzt wird an den gleichen Stellen, einmal von links und einmal von rechts aus gesehen. Wenn man die Papiere faltet erhält man 2 Teile, die wie ein eckiges "J" aussehen und die müssen dann nur noch aneinander geklebt werden. Vergesst nicht, vorher noch ein Fenster in eines der Papiere zu schneiden oder stanzen ;o)

To make this kind of card you need two pieces of paper that are the height you want your card be. To figure out the width you need to add up the measurements of the width of the front of the card, plus the depth, plus about 1/4 of an inch for adhering both papers together. You score them at those same measurements, only one time starting from the left and the next time starting from the right. Once you fold the papers, you will get two kind of "J" shapes that now have to be glued together. Before you do though, don't forget to cut or die cut a window from one of the papers ;o)

Die meisten Stempel, die ich benutzt habe, sind von Neat and Tangled - nur das Sternenbanner ist aus einem der neueren Mama Elephant Releases. Um das Design der Schattenbox auch voll auszukosten, habe ich noch zwei Papierstreifen in den unteren Teil geklebt. Die Maße dieser Teile sind: Höhe, wie ihr das möchtet und in der Breite so breit, wie die Kartenfront, plus 1/2 Inch extra, damit ihr an jeder Seite eine 1/4 Inch Klebelasche habt. Einige meiner Elemente, zum Beispiel den Bären und den Pinguin, habe ich mit einem weiteren Stück Papier verstärkt, dass ich einfach hinten drauf geklebt habe. Den anderen reichte die vorhandene Klebefläche, um fest zu bleiben, weshalb ich diese in Ruhe gelassen habe ;o)

Most of the images I have used are from Neat and Tangled - only the star banner is from one of the newer Mama Elephant releases. In oder to make use of the shadow box design I have inserted two pieces of paper. Measurements of this paper: hight as desired and the width of the paper is the width of the card front plus 1/2 inch, so you can have to 1/4 inch flaps at the side to adhere the paper. Some images, like the bear and the penguin, needed a little strip of paper as reinforcement glued to their backs, but all the other elements for sturdy enough as they were so I left them be ;o)

Heute möchte ich meine dritte Karte aus der Weihnachtsserie mit euch teilen. Dieses Mal konnte ich nicht widerstehen und habe diese super niedlichen Katzen von Gerda Steiner Designs zu den Hauptakteuren gemacht:

Today I would like to share the third card of my Christmas Series with you. This time I could not withstand those super cute cats by Gerda Steiner Designs and made them the main attraction on the card:

Ich hatte sofort diese Szene im Kopf ;o) Wie ihr vielleicht wisst, habe ich selber auch 2 Kater und schon so manches Mal Mühe sie vom geschmückten Weihnachtsbaum fernzuhalten... Die ganze Szene sollte ausschauen, wie in einem Wohnzimmer und deshalb habe ich den Hintergrund wie eine Tapete mit Streifen gestaltet. Für die Streifen bin ich einfach noch einmal mit der Farbe, die ich für den Hintergrund verwendet habe drüber gegangen. Meiner Erfahrung nach reicht das normalerweise, um zumindest ein wenig zu sehen zu sein. Aber offenbar habe ich dieses Mal eine zu helle Farbe gewählt, so dass die Streifen wirklich nur sehr schwer zu erkennen sind.... Wer sich anstrengt, sieht aber vielleicht, welchen Look ich angestrebt habe ;o)

When I saw these cats I could picture the scene in my head immediatrly. As some of you might know I am the Dosenöffner ("can opener") for two cats and this scene is nothing I am not familiar with when we put the Christmas tree up in December. The whole scene was supposed to look like it was happening in a living room, so I created a wallpapered look for the background. Usually it is enough to simply go over the covered area again with the same marker to get some contrasting lines, but for some reasons this time they have almost disappeared. Maybe the marker I had used (YG11) was simply too bright or something like it... However if you squint a little and tilt your head, you might be able to adumbrate (is that the right word???) which look I was going for ;o)

Den Tapetenhintergrund habe ich mit einer Stanze von MFT abgerundet und gewellt und mit Hilfe einer weiteren Stanze ist das Feld für den Spruch entstanden. Diese Stanze stanzt gleichzeitig eine Art Label und den Rand drum herum, so dass man wirklich sehr flexibel ist. Hier habe ich mich dazu entschieden, den Label-Teil herauszunehmen, aber den Rand zu benutzen und finde den Effekt wirklich klasse.

I die cut the top piece of paper with a scallop border die and also die cut a window from the panel, to have a place for my sentiment. For this I used a die by MFT which is so plain at first sight, but you can do more with it than just surround a sentiment with a frame I found. I decided to pop the panel up, but have the frame glued directly to the card base which gives lovely effect I think.

Die Kugeln habe ich ganz normal mit einer helleren Stelle coloriert, um die Rundung der Kugel hinzubekommen. Anschließend habe ich aber noch die Pünktchen für etwas mehr Verzierung und ein zusätzliches Highlight mit einem weißen Gellyroll Pen hinzugefügt. Die Käppchen der Kugeln habe ich mit einem Goldstift ausgemalt, weil die bei uns früher immer golden waren und ich das als Kind toll fand, wenn die Lichter darin so wunderschön funkelten ;o) Ich hoffe, euch gefällt meine dritte Weihnachtskarte ;o) Habt einen schönen (Feier-)tag und happy crafting, eure Maike ;o)

I coloured the Christmas baubles as I usually would with a lighter area in the middle to create the effect of roundness. Next I added the little white dots and a white highlight with a Gellyroll Pen. The little hats of the baubles were coloured golden, because when I was young I loved seeing all the lights of the tree reflecting from that golden part. FINALLY...here is another Happy Insta-Girl Blog Hop for you. As you could probably guess it is all about....Halloween. Just in case you wonder who the Happy Insta-girls are, we are a group of girls who met 'on' Instagram and thanks to Birka we organise regular blog hops, where we send each other cards and share them with you. Diese süße ... ähhh gruselige Karte habe ich von der supertalentierten  Anni von Annikarten bekommen. Wie ihr wisst, liebe ich ja Shakerkarten, süße Monsterchen und tolle Hintergründe. Das Highlight auf dem Schriftzug und das Spiel mit Licht und Schatten auf dieser Karte haben mich echt beeindruckt, weil es einfach supercool aussieht. Aber schaut selbst:


This very supercute ....eh spooky card arrived from Anni (Annikarten). As you all know I love shaker cards, sweet little monsters and great backgrounds. Highlighting the sentiment and playing with light in shadow in a very clever way impressed me a lot. I think it looks really cool, but see for yourself: 

Wenn man die Karte öffnet, findet man das Monsterchen noch einmal in seiner Originalfarbe :o) Das hat mich wirklich zum Grinsen gebracht und die Karte sogar noch "runder" gemacht. Liebe Anni, vielen, vielen Dank für diese geniale Karte! 

What a lovely suprise I found inside when I opened the card - the monster in original colours. It did make me smile and finished the card off. Dear Anni, thank you very, very much for this amazing card!

Dieses Mal durfte ich Wiebke von "Buntebastelecke" mit einer Karte überraschen. Ich weiß zufällig, dass sie interaktive, besondere Kartenformate total gerne mag und habe mich dazu entschieden ihr genau so eine Karte zu basteln. Das Design habe ich bei "Liebesfuchs" gesehen und wusste, dass ich das für Wiebke ausprobieren wollte. Das ist dabei herausgekommen:

This time I was able to surprise Wiebke from 'Buntebastelecke' with one of my cards. Just by chance I knew that she enjoys interactive and innovative card formats and so I decided to include exactly that in my card. The design I found on 'Liebesfuchs' and I knew instantly that this is what I wanted to try for Wiebke's card. This is the result:

Oben könnt ihr sehen, wie die Karte ausschaut, wenn man sie auseinander faltet und unten seht ihr, was Wiebke gesehen hat, als sie die Karte aus dem Umschlag genommen hat. Sich auf diesem Format auszutoben hat total viel Spaß gemacht und falls ihr auch so große Freude an solchen Spielereien habt, solltet ihr es auch auf jeden Fall mal ausprobieren :o)

In the upper part of the picture above you can see what it looks like when the card is unfolded and underneath is the look of what Wiebke saw, when she pulled it out of the envelope. I really enjoyed playing with this idea and in case you would like interactive cards as well, then why don't you give it a try?

Den Hintergrund habe ich mit Distress Inks in "Wilted Violet", "Spiced Marmelade" und "Wild Honey" gewischt und anschließend noch Sprenkel in ähnlichen Farben hinzugefügt. Die silberglänzenden Punkte habe ich mit einem Gemisch aus Wasser und Perfect Pearls in der Farbe Perfect Pearls gemacht.

The background is created with distress inks in 'wilted violet', ' spiced marmalade' and 'wild honey' by distressing the edges. Afterwards I added some flicks of paint of similar colours. The silver spots were created with a mixture of water and perfect pearls in the colour 'perfect pearls'.

Für den Gruß an Wiebke habe ich ein Quadrat mit Wellenrand ausgestanzt und den Rand mit "Wilted Violet" eingefärbt, damit es besser zum Rest der Karte passt. Auch hier musste natürlich noch mal eine kleine Spinne auftauchen... :o) Damit die Karte flach im Umschlag liegen konnte, habe ich ein Band aus Papier gestaltet, auf das ich dann auch direkt noch meinen Kartenspruch gestempelt habe :o)

To write a message for Wiebke I cut a scalloped square and coloured the edges with 'wilted violet' so that it would blend in with the rest of the card. Of course I had to add a little spider as a finishing touch. In order for the card to fit flat into the envelope, I cut a strip of paper to go around the outside and to finish it off, I added my own sentiments to it.

2 oder mehr Stanzen zu benutzen ist die Herausforderung auf dem Challenge Up Your Life Blog. Also habe ich meine Stanzen herausgekramt und die zweite Karte für meine Weihnachtsserie gebastelt ;o)

2 or more die cuts are the theme for our new challenge at Challenge Up Your Life. So I got out a lot of my dies and created this card for CUYL and as my second card for my Christmas series ;o)

Zuerst habe ich aus gemustertem Papier von Lawn Fawn - ich liebe diesen Schneeflockenhintergrund - das abgerundete Rechteck mit der "Tür" ausgestanzt. Den Rahmen habe ich mit "Stormy Sky" Distress Ink abgedunkelt, um den Fokus mehr auf den inneren Teil zu lenken, aber trotzdem das Muster nicht völlig zu verbergen. Dann habe ich den mittleren Teil mit den Hügeln, Bergen, Bäumen und dem "North Pole" Schild dekoriert. Auf letzteres habe ich vor dem Aufkleben noch etwas von dem "Schneestift" gegeben, den ich mir letztes Jahr bei einem Discounter gekauft habe und war überrascht, wie toll der Effekt wird, wenn man diese Schneeflüssigkeit heiß macht. Es wird ein wirklich schöner 3D-Schnee und sieht klasse aus!

I started by die cutting the frame with the door from some patterned paper by Lawn Fawn - I love this snowy background! In order to have the focus more on the door-part I darkened the frame with "Stormy Sky" Distress Ink. That way the pattern is still visible but a lot more subtle. Next I decorated the inner part with mountains, snowy hills, trees and the "North Pole" sign. For the sign I have used a snow pen for the first time and was excited to see how well it worked. I love this 3D effect and the snow looks almost real!

Wenn man das Törchen öffnet sieht man Santa, der gerade fröhlich durch den Schnee stapft. Vielleicht ist er ja auf dem Weg zu Dir?! ;o) Coloriert habe ich mit Copic Markern und dem Stern auf dem Tannenbaum habe ich später noch etwas Glitzer verpasst. When the recipient opens the little door part, he or she can see Santa walking happily in the snow carrying a Christmas tree. Wondering where he is going to? ;o) I coloured everything with Copic markers and added a bit of glitter to the star. Happy Halloween - Grumpy Cat (Gerda Steiner Designs)

Auch bei PINspirational ist das Thema "Halloween" und ich habe auch für diese Karte Motive von Gerda Steiner benutzt:

PINspirational Challenges' new topic is "Halloween" as well and for this cardI have used the sweet images by Gerda Steiner again:

Begonnen habe ich mit dem Colorieren der süßen Stempel aus dem neuen "Where is the Candy" Set. Ich liebe die Tierstempel - also die Hauptakteure des Sets, aber auch die süßen Zusatzbildchen finde ich klasse - deswegen habe ich auch direkt alle ein paar Mal coloriert ;o) Für diese Karte habe ich mich entschieden, den Hund und die Katze zu benutzen, weil ich sofort eine Story hinter den Mimiken der beiden entdeckt habe. Welche Geschichte ich mir da in meinem Hirn zusammen gereimt habe? Na, schaut euch mal den Gesichtsausdruck der Samtpfote an und dann guckt mal, was sie trägt. Genau, das Licht. Der Hund hingegen hat schon einen ganzen Eimer voller Süßigkeiten und bekommt trotzdem immer noch mehr zugeworfen. Da wäre ich als Katze auch ein wenig neidisch und grummelig ;o)

I started with colouring all the cute images from the new "Where is the Candy" set by Gerda Steiner. I love the images of the animals and the little additions as well ;o) For this card I decided to only use the dog and the cat, because I could see a story behind the images: The cat looks very grumpy holding the lantern, right? And why is that? Well, I think, that the cat is mighty jealous, because the dog has a bucket full of candy already and the sweets are only thrown at him. ;o)

Den Hintergrund habe ich mit Distress Inks in Seedless Preserves, Carved Pumpkin und Fossilized Amber und ein paar Spritzern Perfect Pearls Wasser gemacht (das sind die glänzenden, hellen Punkte). Als Akzent habe ich noch die kleine Spinne von der oberen, rechten Ecke baumeln lassen - da sie sonst so leer war. Zum Schluss habe ich nur noch den Spruch gestempelt, mit Copics noch Schatten für die Tiere hinzugefügt und dann alles aufgeklebt. Damit es so ausschaut, als würde die Katze mit dem Licht vorgehen, habe ich sie als einzige mit Abstandskleber aufgeklebt.

I created the background with Distress Inks in Seedless Preserves, Carved Pumpkin and Fossilized Amber and also some flicks of water that I had added some Perfect Pearls in the colour Perfect Pearls to (they are the bright spots all over the background). As an accents, because it seemed to be a little to empty, I added the little spider to the top right. Now all that was left to do was to stamp the sentiment, add some drop shadows for the animals with a Copic marker and adhere the element to the card. I have used foam tape for the cat, so it looks like it is a bit in front of the dog holding the lantern, but everything else is adhered flat to the background.

Halloween Hello (Owl by Gerda Steiner Designs)

Bei Cards und More dreht sich alles um da bevorstehende Halloween-Fest! Da ich selber nicht so der Gruselfan bin, halte ich meine Halloweenkarten immer eher niedlich, so wie hier mit der niedlichen Eule von Gerda Steiner:

Halloween is coming and so the Cards und More blog chose "Halloween" as the new challenge topic. I am not a big fan of scary and creepy things which is why I decided to use the cute owl by Gerda Steiner as my main image:

Das tolle an dem Motiv ist, wie ich finde, dass es super zu Halloween passt, man es aber auch einfach nur als Herbstmotiv nutzen kann ;o) Hier habe ich sie als süße Halloween-Schneeeule eingesetzt. Den Hintergrund habe ich mit einer Spinnennetz-Schablone gestaltet, und die Fäden mit Nuvo Glitter nachgezogen.

The awesome feature (I hope this is the right word) about this image is, that you can use it for Halloween but also as a normal Fall- image as well ;o)Here I made her a white snowy owl and made a Halloween background using a spider web stencil and Nuvo Glitter Drops to accentuate the threads.

Ich habe noch ein weißes Papier zurechtgestanzt (mit einem Fenster und einer Bordüre), damit die Eule einen Platz zum Sitzen und ich einen Platz für meinen Kartenspruch hatte. Christmas Series Card # 1 / Weihnachtsserie Karte #1 (Yeti or not...)

Halli Hallo ihr Lieben!

Es ist mal wieder soweit: meine alljährliche Weihnachtsserie geht an den Start ;o) Dieses Mal machen die süßen Yetis von Mama Elephant den Anfang, weil der Spruch "Yeti or not, here comes Christmas" (frei übersetzt "Yeti oder nicht, jetzt kommt Weihnachten") so klasse als Anfangskarte passt.

It is this time of year again: my annual Christmas series starts today ;o) This time the cute yetis by Mama Elephant won "Best sentiments for the first card for the series":

Begonnen habe ich damit den Yeti auf ein Stück "Exacompta" Papier zu stempeln, ein Rechteck mit Wellenrand daraus auszustanzen und sowohl den Rand, als auch das Schneewesen zu maskieren. Den Hintergrund habe ich mit Distress Inks in Seedless Preserves, Wilted Violet, Tumbled Glass und Squeezed Lemonade gewischt. Ein wenig vorsichtig musste ich bei dem Übergang von Gelb zu Blau sein, damit da nicht plötzlich ein Grünton am Himmel auftauchte.

I started by stamping the Yeti on a piece of "Exacompta" white paper, die cutting the scalloped rectangle from it and masking the critter as well as the small frame. I coloured the background with Distress Inks in Seedless Preserves, Wilted Violet, Tumbled Glass and Squeezed Lemonade, being very careful not to overlap the blue and the yellow, because I didn't want any green to suddenly appear at the sky.

Nach dem Lösen der Maske habe ich den Yeti mit Copics coloriert, ebenso wie den Mini-Santa und seine Rentiere, die ich anschließend ausgeschnitten bzw. ausgestanzt habe. Das Rechteck mit dem Yeti habe ich auf direkt auf eine Kartenbasis geklebt nachdem ich den Spruch aufgestempelt hatte. Im nächsten Schritt habe ich viele kleine Schneeflocken auf der gesamten Fläche verteilt, damit das Motiv noch ein wenig winterlicher wirkt. Zum Schluss habe ich den Schlitten nebst der Zugtiere und als Zügel kleine Stücke Bakers Twine aufgeklebt. Ich hoffe, euch hat meine erste weihnachtliche Inspiration gefallen ;o)

After I took off the mask I coloured the Yeti with Copic markers and also the little Santa and his reindeer which I die cut respectively fussy cut after I had them all coloured in. After stampin the absolutely wonderful sentiment I adhered the rectangle piece directly to my card base and added some snowflakes to give it more of a wintery feeling. To finish the card off I glued the sledge and the draft animals to the coloured background adding pieces of Bakers Twine to have it look like Santa's rein.

PS: Einige werden sich in der letzten Zeit vielleicht gewundert haben, warum auf meinem Blog nichts los ist und ob sich das wieder ändern wird... Die Antwort ist ganz einfach: Ich habe mehrere Wochen meinen Kopf kaum bewegen können und fast nichts machen können.
