Happy Birthday from the penguins

Hello everyone ;o)
Today I am back with a new card for Papercraft Challenges. This time we want to see the sentiment as the focus piece of your card. I chose to use this huge die from Honey Bee Stamps and love the result:

I started by creating this fun background in pink, red and a very pale pink as well and placed the birthday sentiment on top right in the center.

Because of all the die cut pieces I feel like the card has a lot of dimension without being bulky though. After adhering the sentiment I placed the two cute penguins around it and stuck the "Happy"-piece to one of the penguin's wings, so that it looks like it is holding it while flying by holding a balloon.

I decorated the inside as well and added some star sequins to the front and my card was done. I really love the look of this huge sentiment on the front. I hope I could inspire you to create a card with the sentiment as your focus as well and hope you are going to share it with us in our gallery! Have a fabulous day and happy crafting ;o) Yours Maike

Liebe Grüße (Bear greetings)

Hello everyone :o)
It is Febuary already - well it has been for a day, but don't tell anyone, because I am a little late posting this card... I have created it for the "Hearts" challenge over at Challenge Up your Life. I am not a whole lot into Valentine's cards because my loved ones never throw those cards away I give to them - which is lovely and shows appreciation and all that, but they tend to pile up in our home, so I usually give other things for Valentines like a cake or some flowers or hugs ;o) However, I love hearts on cards, so even this is a perfect theme for Valentine's cards I created a "Hello" card and love how it turned out. I hoipe you do, too:

To get a bit of a shadow effect I die cut the hearts beackground die twice, once from white and the second time from dark red cardstock and glued the slightly offset together as you can see in the picture. Next i cut a wonky circle and two speech bubbles from the same red cardstick. I heat embossed my sentiment on the speech bubbles and afterwards added the faux stitching line with a white gel pen.

Next I die cut some copic friendly paper with the bear die, added some colouring and or shading to the individual pieces and assembled the bear back together again. The way I do this is to take the biggest die and colouring around it with a pencil. Next I will cut it out not on the line but rather a quarter inch inside of the line to give myself a piece of paper to glue all the individual pieces to. That way I can cover the big peiece with adhesive and don't have to worry about putting a tiny bit of glue on each and every piece. I adhered the bear to the wonky circle using foam tape on the top and regular tape towards the bottom to give it that angle to really make it look at you and also added the speech bubbles. I hope you are going to join us at Challenge Up Your Life. With the updated rules you can now post three projects to our challenge, sharing even more of your talent with us ;o) Have a wonderful day everyone and happy crafting ;o)
Yours Maike

Celebrate - Maaike Uithoven's 2000 follower celebration blog hop

Halli Hallo zusammen!

Heya everyone!
A long while back Maaike of "Cards by Maaike" created a few cards for a collaboration we had - have a look here if you are interested in learning more about it ;o) Not so long ago, she has asked me if I would take part in celebrating her almost 2000 followers on YouTube and of course I said yes. In case you don't know her channel yet, just click here ;o)

https://youtu.be/PEjPkcSAuxg

The other participants all have a YouTube channel as well and made a video for you because of Maaike's milestone. That alone would be worth it to hop over to their channels, don't you think? As an addition you will have the chance to win something at each stop from the hop though... From me you could win either the cards I have created for this hop or a $10 gift certificate to an online craft shop of your choice if you are a follower of my blog and  leave a comment under this post by tomorrow night (04.02.2018). But now, let's take a closer look at the cards:

I started by creating a background with three colours of Distress Inks: Wilted Violet, Seedless Preserves and Picked Raspberry. Next I splattered Copic Opaque White over the coloured background as well as some watered done Perfect Pearls powder in the colour Perfect Pearls :o) While that dried I coloured and fussy cut the images for my cards. I used Zig markers for the cat and Copics for the little bear.

I cut the background piece to size and die cut the "celebrate" speechbubble from it. For the card with the bear, I made a shaker out of the "original" die cut. I glued clear acetate behind the piece and added foam tape around the edge and from left to right where the gaps between the letters are, so that the shaker material wouldn't only be at the bottom. For my second card I used the "scrap pieces" ;o) In combination with the speechbubble dir cut from white and another time from grey paper as a shadow, you wouldn't guess, that it was a by product, or would you?

Below you can find a list of all the people that are taking part in the blog hop so that you could congratulate Maaike to her milestone and watch all the other celebration card videos if you'd like to ;o) Have fun with the hop, happy crafting and I'll hopefully see you soon! (Monday perhaps, to see if you are the lucky winner? *grin) Have a wonderful weekend, yours Maike

Just Fur You - Leopard

Heya my dear crafty friends!
For the 2017 Card Design Superstar Challenge: Innovation Master by MFT and for a very dear friend of mine I made this colourful card:

First I created a rainbow background using Distress Inks and some droplets of water to give it a little bit more interest. In order to get this cover-up look I played with a few of the dies (see further down for the list of supplies) I already had in my stash and I like the result very much. A different company released a die just like this recently and I had the urge to order one for the longest time. But now, that I know that with a few steps more I can get a very similar look, I think I'll get to invest the money I "saved" in some lovely new stamps or so :o)

Next I coloured this super cute leopard on his branch and his three feathered friends with Copics and cut them out. Before I glued everything in place, I found the right spot for the sentiment by just placing everything down and then I stamped the "Just Fur You" in Versamark and added white embossing powder to it. I hope you like my card and the way I have combined those dies (which is a technique I am going to try soon with different dies I think). Have a fantastic day and happy crafting, yours Maike

Birthday cake card

Heya my dear crafty friends!
Because school starts again tomorrow after a lovely summer break it was a bit more quiet on my blog than usual. I had to prepare for the coming school year, but now I am almost content with what I have accomplished so far and can dedicate some time for my hobby again. Which is just perfect, seeing as there is a new challenge at Cards und More for you ;o) This time around the theme is "Anything goes" and as I am always short on birthday cards I chose this "birthday cake" image by our kind sponsor Dr. Digi and combined it with a few little cats by Mama Elephant:

I am not quite sure where I got the idea from to tip the square to the side, but I really love how it turned out! The background was made with a few different Distress Inks and glued directly to the card base. I stamped the sentiment at the bottom of the coloured paper, so that it would be able to shine and as a last step added the party-loving cats ;o) I hope you are going to join us for our "Anything Goes" challenge at Cards und More. Have a fantastic week, everyone! Happy crafting, yours Maike

You are the coolest - Icecream

Hallo meine lieben Bastelfreunde ;o)
Was meint ihr?

Heya my dear crafty friends ;o)
Today I'd like to share a non-cute card with you... I made them for the newest PINspirational challenge and thought it would make a good male card. What do you think? Anyways, this is the inspiration picture, looks yummy, doesn't it?

I started by tracing around the ice cream dies and colouring each area with watercolours, making sure to put more colour down towards the bottom left of each piece. That way I got a really quick and easy shading and also a lot of texture. I also die cut a scalloped circle from a very glittery cardstock.

Once I had adhered everything down I added the stampin in two steps. First I only stamped the word "coolest" in blue - that drags the eye from the blue ice cream across to the sentiment I think - and then added the rest in black. When I think of ice cream I also think of sprinkles, but I didn't want to add them to the die cuts, so I added them around the circle using all kinds of enamel, glitter and dew drops ;o) Our kind sponsors for this challenge are "Lemon Shortbread" and "Imagine That", so you'll have two chances to win! Hope to see your cool projects in our gallery and happy crafting everybody ;o))

Celebrate - very graphic card using the In-Laid-Die Cutting technique

Hallo meine Lieben!

Heya my dear crafty friends!
You probably wouldn't believe how much time (and nerves) this card has "cost" me, but in the end it turned out as I had envisioned it would ;o)

It is my DT project for our current PINspirational challenge. This is the inspiration pic:

I really liked the white flower on the blue background and then I thought that the stripy piece to the left looked cool as well. The in-laid-die-cutting was a real challenge though. To make my life as easy as possible (with this card at least) I covered a thin piece of paper entirely with adhesive and glued it behind the big hole in my paper once I was done with the die cutting. That way I didn't have to put glue behind every tiny bit of paper but could rather cut the pieces to size and lay them all in their space. I hope you like the card, even though it is very different from what I usually create ;o) Have a wonderful week everyone!!!

Christmas Series Card # 11 / Weihnachtsserie Karte # 11 (Walter & Frost)

Heya my dear crafty friends!
Today I would like to share the next card from my Christmas Series with you. I have used these cute penguin images by Purple Onion Designs and the "Winter Big Scripty Words" are also part of the card again.

I coloured the penguins with Copic markers and fussy cut them out. Next I stamped the "snowflakes" with white ink on red cardstock and die cut the rectangle from it, after everything had dried. (I have learned to let it sit over night, because if I touch the ink too early it will smeer and probably ruin my project. Unfortunately it has happened often and I had to learn to be patient the hard way.)

I die cut the "be merry" sentiment from the red cardstock and once more from white as well and stamped the words on it in red. Next I took a thin piece of paper, cut it a bit larger than the sentiment and covered it completely (!) in snail adhesive. This way it is much easier to fit everything into the designated place again without having to try to put adhesive on a mini tiny piece of paper. It works great if you made sure not to have any holes between the adhesive and if you made sure that you can find all the pieces again when you need them.

To finish the card I glued the completed rectangle directly to the card base and added the penguins with foam tape. I think these two are just too cute and I hope you like them, too! Have a wonderful weekend everyone, yours

Maike

First Christmas card of 2016

Hier also meine erste Weihnachtskarte des Jahres 2016:

Heya my dear crafty friends!
Summer in Germany has reminded me a lot of the winter time this year, so the new challenge at the PINspirational blog was easier for me than I would have liked it to be. So here is my very first Christmas card in 2016:

Our kind sponsor this time is "Imagine That" offering a $10 gift certificate and this is the picture that got me inspired to make my card:

First I die cut a rectangle frame and the word "merry" from a white piece of cardstock and backed it with some red cardstock. I added some red stars and the word "christmas" in red ink, which I also used to colour the edges of the card base. Next I stamped, coloured and fussy cut the cute christmas tree and added it with some foam tape. Love the traditional colours with the more playful design. Hope you do, too and that you will play along with us ;o)

Birthday Card

Hallo zusammen!
Was meint ihr?

Hello my dear crafty friends!
Last year I have purchased some stamps from "Cats on Appletrees" because I love their cute images. However, I do not often use solid stamps on my cards and therefore didn't really know what to do with them. After a bit of experimenting with them I found, that I like a rather graphic design in combination with a solid black impression. What do you think?

First I die cut the word "birthday" from a white panel and stamped the greeting as well as the cute cat around it. Next I blended three different Distress Inks together to achieve an ombre look and glued the piece behind the cut out letters. Now I could adhere the inner parts of the letters, which helped quite a bit with the legibility of the word ;o)

I stamped the "Happy Birthday" background stamp both on the front and on the back of the card base and glued the panel down using foam tape. I added a few sequins to repeat the colours of the word birthday on the card and my card was done.

Focus on Die Cuts (Elephant)

Heya my crafty friends out there!
I hope your week got off to a great start ;o) A while back I wrote, that life got a little more hectic over here and that I would tell you more about it later. Now that it is later, I wanted to share with you that my second niece was born last week and I am happy to say that both the baby and my sister in law are doing great. Also I increased my working hours again, so I will have to use my desk more for other tasks besides crafting again. That doesn't mean, however, that I will be sharing less cards and other projects with you, but that I will try to keep my posts shorter in the future. Writing the posts is the most time consuming part, when it comes to my blog, so I hope you won't mind shorter posts. If I should leave something out that interests you or you have a question, just leave me a comment and I will get back to you as quickly as I can. I love reading your comments by the way and am grateful for each and every one ;o)
For the new Cards und More Challenge I made this birthday card, because we are asking fo projects that focus on die cuts. I remembered this cute elephant die from Rayher I own and knew I wanted to make instantly:

I die cut and then stamped stamped the words "Happy Birthday" and also die cut the other elements for my card. To colour the balloon and the elephant I used my ink blending tool first and afterwards used matching Copic markers for shading.

I felt that the word "Birthday" got a little lost, so I die cut the shape of the word again from a dark grey cardstock and used it as a back drop to make it stand out more against the white card base.I liked it a lot better and really like that the colour of the elephant repeats itself.

Smile Shaker Card

Hello my dear crafty friends!
How about a girly shaker card today? I made this card for a sweet friend of mine who loves usicorns and thought to myself that people who love unicorns surely love to shake multi coloured sequins around as well, wouldn't you agree?

First I made the shaker part of the card and used a paper that I had inked from red to pink  using different Distress Ink:        & Picked Raspberry. After the ink had dried I used this very clever smile die from        , stamped the sentiment with Versamark and white heat embossed it afterwards. I was glad I didn't forget the sentiment this time. More often than I would like to admit I forget the sentiment, though usually I find a way to add it later. This time, however, I wanted it like you see it now, and heat embossing on a finished shaker isn't all that easy...

I have chosen a plain polka dotted paper as my background piece and glued the fuzzy cut castle in the clouds towards the top left of it. Next (another step that I tend to forget) I glued a piece of acetate behind the frame and put a double layer of foam tape along the sides, so that the sequins could move more freely. After I filled the sequinbs in I adhered the background paper.

Nun gings an's Schütteln ;o)

I cut a piece of pretty gray striped paper from MFT to fit the card front and glued it straight to the card base. Now all that was missing was the cute unicorn with a pink mane and the outside of the card was done. To carry the theme of the card to the inside as well I stamped a cake and          there. Now it was high time to shake it ;o)))

So many candles?? So viele Kerzen??

Hallöchen ihr Lieben!
Bei Challenge Up Your Life gibt es heute wieder eine neue Herausforderung.

Hello my crafty friends!
There is a new challenge over at Challenge Up your Life as of now and the theme for the coming fortnight is "die-cutting". Hardly any card of mine is without die-cutting, so I didn't get as many headaches making this inspiration card as I did last time. (You might remember? The card with the buttons???)

I always try to create an inpiration card where the theme of the challenge is obvious or otherwise very important for it. I thought about when I needed my dies the most and came up with two things: Dies are essential for me when I want to cut a window in my card and also when I use stamps that have a front and a back image. When the card is closed you can only see the racoons backs, but when you open it up...

you can see their lovely and cute faces ;o) In the past I have tried fussy cutting the images (like with this card: click), but I was never completely happy with the result - and it takes a lot more time of course. Now with the matching dies it looks really good and professional ;o)))

Hoffe, ihr teilt eure Werke zum Thema "Die-Cutting" mit uns bei Challenge Up Your Life ;o)
I hope you will share your "die-cutting" project with us at the Challenge Up Your Life blog ;o)

Happy crafting!!!
