Christmas Series Card # 13 / Weihnachtsserie Karte # 13 (Cozy Christmas)

Hello my dear crafty friends!
The temperatures in Germany have been quite low a couple of days back, but fortunately it is getting a little warmer again. However, I do have my soft blanket, pillows and warm socks ready ;o) Today's card fits right in with some cozy christmas wishes:

I started out by stamping and masking the cute penguin by Purple Onion Designs and stamping the pillows from My Favorite Things right on top. I wanted it to look like the penguin is sitting cozily between those fluffy pillows ;o) I added some texture to the back, that is meant to look like a sofa... I hope you did recognize it *grin. Next I stamped the background stamp on top of my blue panel and cut the wonky window out of it.

Solltet ihr also "Stick-it" finden, dann gönnt euch welches!

I cut the window from a red piece of paper as well and fuzzy cut the frame out and glued it on top of the blue panel. All that was left to do now was to stamp and heat emboss the first part of the sentiment and finish it with a black die cut piece. I have to tell you... I finally got my hand on some StickIt-paper and that makes glueing a word die cut down much, much easier. So if you get your hands on some sheets I think you should treat yourself to it! Don't we all deserve a treat once in a while? ;o)

Christmas Series Card # 12 / Weihnachtsserie Karte # 12 (Winterberry in the City)

Hello my dear crafty friends!
"Winterberry" is this very cute snowman from the Stacey Yacula series over at Purple Onion Designs. I wanted to create a rather non typical snowman scene with him and this is what came out of it:

First I stamped the city scape of London on my grey card base using black ink and I cut a snowy hill from vellum big enough so that I could stamp my sentiment on it. I have used some Versamark Ink and white Zing!- embossing powder by Amercian Crafts. (You might have noticed already that the sentiment isn't really white compared with the snowflakes - so if I ever made another card like this I would definately try a different embossing powder...)

Next I stamped the snowman in Memento "Gray Flannel", coloured him with Copics and fussy cut him out. I put him down on my card, so that I would know exactly where he would go in the end and placed the snowflakes all around him. When I liked where they wer placed I glued them down using Multi Medium Matte from Ranger and also added "Winterberry" to the card with some foam tapes.

eure Maike :o)

This card with Winterberry marks the end of the first half of the Christmas Series - can't believe how quickly time went by. I hope I was able to inspire you or give you a good tip along the way so far ;o)
Have a wonderful and creative Advent season,

yours Maike :o)

DIY Adventskalender / DIY Advent calender

Hello everyone
and happy December 2015. I hope you all had a wonderful first day of this special month ;o) Today I would like to share the Advent calender I made for my dear husband with you and not a card. It became a kind of tradition to give each other a self made or self filled Advent calender at the beginning of December. In case you are not familiar with Advent calenders, here is how it goes. Almost every kid in Germany gets one for December 1st every year and it can be filled with little toys, books, sweets or whatever comes to mind. There are always 24 things to open, because we celebrate Christmas on the 24th of December. So you have one little surprise every day until the big day is finally there. In the past it grew more and more popular amongst adults to have an Advent calender as well - and why not? I think we all deserve a little bit of a treat now and then, even when we are considered adults, don't you???  So here is the one I made for this year:

Naturally I cannot tell you, what I put into those little drawers, just this much: some very delicious treats are waiting to be enjoyed by my husband ;o))

It took me around 6 - 8 hours to finish the calender, but that was because I made everything myself and I do not have any dies or files to cut the giant "match boxes". However I know that you can purchase the finished boxes in craft stores and that would cut the time in half I would say.

The drawer on top and also the extra boxes you have seen in the first picture are for those treats that are too big or bulky for the little drawers. Whenever a little drawer is empty, my husband can find his surprise in the top drawer. If that isn't big enough either I will put a tag into the little drawer and a matching tag on a box and then he knows that he is in for a really big treat ;o) I wanted to make this project so that it would work for all different kinds of things and not just chocolates and such. This way I hope to be able to use it over and over again and make the effort I put into it really worth while. Writing this I have to say that my husband's delighted expression when I handed his Advent calender over was well worth it by itself.

For this calender I was inspired by a picture on Pinterest. You can find the link here - unfortunately the post didn't include a tutorial. So if you would like to make a calender as well, let me know in the comments below. If need be I will try to write a quick tutorial and share it with you ;o) I wish you a wonderful Advent time (I hope that this is an accurate term in English as well...) and hope that you will stay healthy during this cold time of the year! (If you happen to live in Australia or somewhere similarly hot, I hope that you won't get sun burned while celebrating Christmas at the beach *grin)

Christmas Series Card # 11 / Weihnachtsserie Karte # 11 (Happy Santa)

"He had a broad face and a little round belly, that shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!"

Hello my dear crafty friends!
Today starts a new challenge over at the Crafty Cardmakers & More and I love the inspiration even more than I did all the ones before. Pam chose the poem "Twas the Night Before Christmas" as your inspiration and I found that I could have made at least a dozen different cards from it. Why not hop on over there, read the poem and get inspired by it as well as by the wonderful cards the other team members have created ;o) I chose these two lines for my inspiration and created the following card:
"He had a broad face and a little round belly, that shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!"

I have dry embossed my card base using this very cute folder by "Taylored Expressions" and chosen the shape I wanted to go on the card front. I sketched it roughly on a piece of paper and then stamped all the images. After I had coloured them in using Copic markers I die cut the flag shape. I find it easier this way, because I don't particularly like colouring up the the edge of the paper and also the pierced part would take the ink a little differently than the smooth paper.

Before I glued the flag shape to the card front I put some Clear Wink of Stella on Rudolph's nose, the bows and the star. For Santas hat I wanted something more noticable and chose "Rock Candy" Distress Stickles. Unfortunately the pictures don't show all that beautiful shimmer it adds to the card...

I would love to see your creations over at the Crafty Cardmakers blog. And don't forget that I have a giveaway for a $25 gift certificate to an online crafting store of your choice. You can find all the details here ;o) I hope you are enjoying this christmas series as much as I do! ;o)

Christmas Series Card # 10 / Weihnachtsserie Karte # 10 (Rudolph in the city)

Halli Hallo ihr Lieben!
Die zehnte Karte meiner Weihnachtsserie ist gleichzeitig ein Beitrag für die neue Challenge auf dem "Challenge Up Your Life" Blog:

Hello my dear crafty friends!
This is the tenth card of my christmas card series and it doubles as an inspiration for the current challenge over at the "Challenge Up Your Life" blog:

This time they have a tictactoe for you as inspiration. All you need to do is to choose one row (from left to right, top to bottom or a diagonal line) and make something that includes all three elements.

As you might see I opted for the top row. First I covered the front of my card with two different washi tapes. And because I didnÄt want them to come off later I wrapped the tape around the edge and glued a piece of paper right over it.

Next I die cut the banner from white cardstock twice and also die cut two holes in one of them. Good thing holes look like dots ;o) I traced the circles onto the second banner and stamped the images right inside that area. That way I made sure that I knew what was going to be visible through the die cut windows. I coloured the images in with Copic markers, filled in the snow with a white Gelly Roll Pen and glued the pieces together using some foam tape.

Then I stamped the sentiment "Frohe Weihnachten" (Merry christmas) between two rows of washi tape and also glued the banners to the top left of my card. I hope you'll join us for this fun challenge and am looking forward to finding out which row you choose and what you make with it ;o)

Christmas Series Card # 9 / Weihnachtsserie Karte # 9 (Cookie card)

Hello my dear crafty friends!
Today I would like to show you a card that doubles as an invitation to a baking party for my lovely little niece. I thought that baking cookies is so much fun and especially in the days and weeks coming up to christmas. Maybe you also know a little or not so little anymore person who would love to receive an invitation for baking some cookies together.

First I created the background for the card and stamped some items and ingediences you need for baking in rows onto my piece of paper, making sure to leave enough space between the flour and the kitchen machine for the sentiment. Next I used some E40ies Copic markers to fill in the background in an ombre fashion. Now it was time to create my tray with the cookie jar, milk and cookies. When you create a scene like that it is easiest when you have a picture in your head of how you want it to look like. Sometimes it helps me to stamp all the stamps I want to use over each other - without any masking - and then number the items serially from 1 (furthest in the front) to your last item. That way you will know exactly when to stamp which image.

Once I was happy with my cookie scene I coloured it in with Copics again and fussy cut it out. I heat embossed the the sentiment "Auf die Plätzchen, fertig, los!" (which is a modification of the German "Auf die Plätze, fertig los -->Ready set go", and also has the word "Plätzchen" in it now, which means cookies) in its designated space on my background and cut it out using a stitched rectangle die. I also die cut a flag shape out of vellum. All that was left to do now was to assemble everything on my card and glue it down. As a finishing touch I added some Clear Wink of Stella to the tiny gingerbread men and also some Glossy Accents to the rim and the top of the cookie jar.

Christmas Series Card # 8 / Weihnachtsserie Karte # 8 (Elf on Shelf) :o)

Heya dear crafty friends!
This cute elf wanted to be on a card for the longest time and now - he is. He was just to perfect for this fortnights {PIN}spirational challenge ;o) (You can find the inspiration picture further down in this post.) Our sponsor this time is Aurora Wings and as always you can win a prize for her store!

The image actually consists of two stamps, so I needed to do a bit of masking. First I stamped the little guy, next the shelf with the books and the little tree on top. After I had coloured everything in and had stamped the sentiment I used a Copic Multiliner to write the titles of the books and also to give the appearance of writing on the "Naughty or Nice" - list. Now my card was done - had I stuck to my original idea. However I felt like the card was a bit too empty, so I used one of my embossing folders to give the bottom of the card base a bit more interest. Now I was happy with the result ;o)

Hope you will join us for our current {PIN}spirational challenge and get inspired by my card and the inspiration picture itself:
