Make a Splash (birthday card / Geburtstagskarte)

Hello my crafty friends!
Do you know the "Comic Strip" Die by Papertrey Ink? I always wanted to get it, but for some reason (well, mainly because shipping to Germany is expensive and takes such a long time...) it isn't part of my collection of craft supplies yet. I really love the look it gives you, though. So I thought I would give it a try and create a comic strip cut file for my Silhouette Cameo. This is what I came up with:

When you look closely you might see that my Silhouette doesn't cut very cleanly at the edges which is really very annoying. (However, I think I should mention that some of my friends have the same machine, but no such problems with it... No idea why it cuts like this for me!) Forgetting about unclean edges I must say I really do like the way I divided the Comic Strip.
In order to colour in the individual segments I put the frame down on the card base and used a pencil to mark the edges of each rectangle. I used post its to mask each area off and an Ink Blending Tool to sponge on some colour. The shades I used are als from HEro Arts: Tide Pool, Soft Sky and Cornflower.

I stamped the dolphins and their ball with Memento Ink onto thick white paper, coloured them using my Copic markers and fussy cut them out. Next I stamped the greetings in their designated spaces using "Navy" from Hero Arts. After that all that was left was to glue everything down and add some Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Pen to the waterball and the waves on the upper left.

  1. Oh my gosh, this is so wonderful!! I love your comic strip you've created ... so clever and fun! Great job! I have a silhouette cameo as well ... the only thing I can say is maybe try slowing down (or speeding up) the speed of your cutting to see if it makes a difference and gives you a cleaner cut. Good luck! Thanks for playing along at Happy Little Stampers.
